wedding errands over the weekend

Updates from the weekend, bbs!

As mentioned in my previous entry, I had two wedding errands last weekend:

Make-up trial with Lipgloss By Dyana Zainal

I had a make-up trial session with Lipgloss by Dyana Zainal on Saturday and was warmly greeted by Dyana and her parents when I reached their place in time for my 2pm appointment! Made myself comfortable on the high chair inside Dyana's make-up room (?) and she started the whole process almost immediately. Prompt!

We chatted easily during the session - might be because we have mutual friends and acquaintances and we've known each other for awhile now. Anyway! After about an hour and a half of chatting and brushing and applying (her) and whining that "this is the heaviest my eyes have ever felt" (me HAHA) this was the outcome:

Tadaaaaa~! I kasi 'Before' and 'After' shot lah eh so boleh nampak the difference.

Anyway, the application was clean and rapi and I was especially pleased with the blush contouring (?) and lip colour. Super love the eyeliner too because that was exactly what I requested!!! My only issues with the look were:

(1) The darker upper portion of the eyeshadow? Too dark for me. To be fair, I asked for dramatic eye make-up whereas the rest of the face has to be more natural... But I think it might be because of the fact that I seldom use eyeshadow so to me anything eyeshadow is aready dramatic enough lah kan hahaha. Told Dyana to tone it down and change to a lighter colour so I'm hoping that that'll work better for me;

(2) The eyebrow colour is a taddddd too thick for my liking so I've asked Dyana to tone it down for the actual photoshoot as well! You know, as much as I'd like to try having ulzzang eyebrows, I think I'll play it safe and stick to my typical kening minah Melayu. Haha! My original eyebrows already minahfied so jangan perasan nak ulzzang eyebrows, please. Makan kimchi hari hari pun belum tentu menjadi.

So aaaaaanyway I am super duper glad Dyana offered me a make-up trial because I found it really useful!!! I used the session to tell her what I like and what I didn't fancy that much and it prepped me for how I might look like on the actual photoshoot day.

Of course, trials can never guarantee that the actual day look will be exactly the same lah but at least you get the feel of it and can ask the MUA to level up or tone down the thickness etc, like how I did with Dyana during our session.

Okay come, I nak show one more gambar yang I tak post kat Instagram:

 Hehe miang!

Oh by the way, Dyana tried two different lip colours on me - one in pink and one in nude - but I preferred the nude one better because it looks more... neutral? I don't really like pink lip colours in the first place lah so memang dah biased dah in the first place. (And is it just me OR IS MY HAIR BESAR PANJANG ALREADY *denial*)

Collection of Invitation Cards from Farhana of From Fran With Love

The day after the trial, I went to Causeway Point with my family to buka puasa before heading to Farhana from From Fran With Love punya place to collect the invitation cards! This one is for the afternoon reception guests on my side pulak - the ones for my mamat's afternoon reception guests and the ones for our dinner reception already printed and collected in June (blogged about it here)

Come come, nak sneak peek tak! Kalau tak nak pun taaaaakpe, I nak tunjuk jugak. You tak happy you boleh tutup mata je lah ok.

Opted for customized design instead of something off her existing collection so I had to give FFWL the details that I wanted for my afternoon reception cards. Was a very fun process!!! Don't know if it was as fun for FFWL ah hahahahaha but I really love and appreciate her dedication and patience throughout the whole thing.

Cute little map that FFWL designed for the cards!

(Oh, we opted for NO maps for our dinner reception invitation cards by the way -  we're assuming our tech-savvy friends akan auto and akan check Google Maps for directions. Let's hope this decision does not backfire on us lah eh ha ha ha ha ha.)

All 400 cards waiting to be distributed to my side of the family and my parents' colleagues!!!!! Okay fine not all 400 cards, technically only 350 are up for distribution but it's better to be safe than sorry yes? Ordered extra just in case terlupa ada makcik punya sedara punya bapak mertua punya adik punya bini kedua yang mesti dijemput, you know.

The other night my mat and I were out at bazaar Geylang with Sham and Aisyah when Sham asked us in a very pakcik way that is so typical of him - "So raya ni... card jemputan jalan lah ni?" Hahahahaha wth damn pakcik siak that line.

Yes Pak Sham, our card jemputan will "jalan" this coming raya!!! Two more days to the festivities and I'm already feeling nervous!!!!!

Tak tau lah nervous ape, mungkin nervous nak hadapi all the "Wahhhhh nak jadi pengantin lah ni???" "Ah, yang ini yang nak kahwin hujung tahun ni" "Biasa lah ni kan bakal pengantin" type of jibes that will surely come my way. Aisehmen. Kalau jalan raya pakai topeng, considered trendy tak, guys?????

Guess I'll be doing a lot of this in a few days' time then HAHAHA

all about the face

Actually pinned these make-up ideas on Pinterest in case I can somehow jampi convince my mak andam to rebel and make me up a little differently for our wedding dinner!

But I know it's difficult for bridal mak andams to deviate too far off from their signature looks so even if mine membantah dan memberontak tak tentu pasal macam a group of ridiculously gila feminists (NSFW), I know that I can let it slide because I can ask Dyana from Lipgloss By Dyana to try any of these for my outdoor photoshoot instead!

As you can see, akak sungguh feberet sama all these winged winged eyeliner look. Hehe.

Wahaiiiii Dyana, my photoshoot MUA and fellow BTB, I bilang you dulu yang you better do the wing wing thing for my mata ok! Kalau tak I will tuang Red Bull all over my mata untuk kasi dia wings instead hahahahaha ok lah ok lah in all seriousness, I do have faith that Dyana will be able to recreate or get inspired from the above samples - doing a trial one month before the photoshoot so we should be able to gauge the kind of look I'll be able to pull off and whether the above kind of look will suit my skin and face in the first place. Me liking a certain kind of look does not mean that that look will actually work out nicely for me ye para hadirin dan hadirat. But I know one thing's for sure ah - kalau takde extreme winged eyeliner pun, musttttt pakaikan thick eyeliner ah.

As it is, I cannot even make it out the door seh kalau tak pakai a little bit of eyeliner in my everyday life - No lipstick? No problem. No powder? No issue. No blusher? No sweat. But no freaking eyeliner????? Takpe lah jah, sampai bila bila pun aku tak keluar rumah, jah. Aku lebih rela mati kelaparan dalam rumah ni, jah. Hahahahaha.

Haiz. Habis ah gini. Macam mana nak survive bila I start wearing no make-up two months before my wedding ni?!!!

Ah, and yes. I have decided to practise that whole "jangan pakai make-up, kalau tak nanti takde seri pengantin time kahwin" thingamajig, except... oook lah I'll put on a liiiiittle bit of eyeliner and a liiiiittle bit of lip colour so the uncle security at my office don't think I'm some hantu cina + I'm cutting it down from the usual six month practice (amongst my girlfriends) to a more manageable two months. Nak lepaskan Raya punya pasal ma haha + this timeline works out perfect for me because our outdoor photoshoot is scheduled on the last week of August, which is more or less when Hari Raya is about to bungkus - so that means lepas photoshoot, no more make-up sampai hari sanding, y'all.

Tak tau lah effect dia sama ke tak but at least I cuba try ok (Dah cuba, try pulak tu.) Must really tabik my girlfriends who went au naturel (face-wise) six full months before their weddings!!! Nak kasi korang pingat penghormatan, please.

Oh, but actually kan, my biggest worry now is my kening tau!!! I've mentioned before that my original kening looks like misai Anil Kapoor and two months of not threading my eyebrows MIGHT! MEAN! My kening will have to go back to their auta mamak roots. Aiyoyo thambi! D:

Tapi takpelah, nak tangkap seri pengantin punya pasal kan. Misai pun misai lah.

(Ya Tuhanku, kau lindungilah mereka mereka yang akan nampak aku without full face make-up di bulan September kelak. Amin.)

hey newbie, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey newbie

I can haz a make-up artist (MUA) for our post-wedding photoshoot!

Hahahahaha ok ok actually amidst the booking of service providers and planning the guestlist and itinerary, the thought of getting a MUA for our post-wedding photoshoot didn't exactly cross my mind. When we first booked a slot with Bliss Photocinema, my only thought was "Well ok, since it's a casual photoshoot, I'll just get Nani to make me up or worse come to worse just pergi kedai buat make-up and hairstyling" so I didn't exactly keep a lookout for a MUA.

And then, my dear Dyana recently launched her freelance MUA services on Facebook! So I thanked her for officially launching, asked her for her rates and boomz - I can haz a MUA for my photoshoot!

Hee hee hee.

Ok I know you must be wondering - who exactly is this Dyana ni? The new and improved version of Diana from Janji Diana ke?!?!?! Oh tidak, my friends!!!

Hahahahaha I have obviously picked up some dramatics from my very dramatic auta keling mamat. (Do you know that if he snubs his toe or something minor like a scratch or what, he will wail about how he is injured, make his breathing fast and short and cry out that he will need medical attention, an ambulance, anything?! DRAMA NAK MAMPOS.)

I actually know Dyana from sometime back - we didn't hang out or anything (although she once passed me a bag of gummy bears through a secret backdoor hahaha dodgy much pe kita) but we're on each other's social media so we've been connected online for quite awhile. I've seen her make-up works on Instagram and really liked it but she can do super simple and she can do dramatic bold colours - really versatile!

As a fresh face in the industry, of course tak banyak to showcase but some of her few works here:

 (Source: Lipgloss by Dyana)

Eh, very interesting eh all these MUAs. They all semua ada "by" "by" - you know - Faceworks by Juliana Naim, Magic Touch by Wiwit Anggun, Faces by Sarah dan segala macam by by by lah. Kalau aku lah MUA, mesti aku call myself "Puakaface by Farhana". Siapa yang nak muka make-up nampak macam puaka, ah silalah kasi aku make-upkan muka kau ye hahahahaha (Nampak nampaknye time Halloween je baru make-up services aku akan laku ye)

Ok berbalik kepada kami di studio satu.

I think it's a well-known fact that one of the awesome things about getting service providers who are new to the market is that their rates are usually awesomely cheap, and it's no different for Lipgloss by Dyana! So if you have engagements ke, photoshoots ke, dinner and dance ke, suka suka nak duduk rumah feeling feeling datin sambil tunggu husband balek from kerja ke, and don't see a need to spend a bomb for it then Dyana's your girl for it ok!

Cakap punya cakap pasal fresh faces in the industry, you all ada nampak kelibat fresh new face of a wedding photographer tak??? I got nampak, you know! And it came in this form:

[More stuff over at their Facebook but naturally, not that many wedding albums because they just started out in October! If you like their work and decide to engage them then next time your album pulak lah yang akan masuk their portfolio and tolong other pengantins-to-be decide whether to engage them for wedding photographers ke tak ^^]

Price-wise, same thing - much lower than the big boy players in the market because newbie ma sooooo if you belum dapat wedding photographer, this is a company you can consider - catch them before they naik harga sampai setanding with the other photographers in the market ok!

Ok guys. Since we're on the topic of new players, guess which newbie is also coming into the market???

You see the two pelamins and decor in my instagram pictures above??? Everything painstakingly and lovingly DIY-ed by the pengantins (and their awesome helpers)! Super awesome considering that they're first-timers at this, please. Planning a wedding is tough enough but to pull everything off yourself without professional help??? Takes hard work and dedication, y'all. Respect.

What makes me very happy and excited is that they've decided to establish their own wedding decor and catering company and will be able to cater to different styles and tastes of fellow pengantins-to-be. Shall wait for the newly-weds to come back from their honeymoon (they're flying off only next week) before blogging more about this new venture of theirs.

You all just tunggu snug and tight in your seats ok. Now if you will excuse me, akak have a wedding to go to in an hour's time.
