much ado about hairdo (part two)

Still trying to find ideas for my engagement hair.

I last wrote about this engagement hair issue in an entry back in July… it’s September now and I’m still undecided as to how I want to wear my hair! I was considering a few options, including the one that my sister suggested, but after much thought I decided her idea was too young and too casual for an engagement.

I mean, I like young and casual, but I still want to retain some kind of mmm formality (?) for our engagement so we’ll stick to a little bit of normalcy this time round, shall we? Heehee.

(Plus it’ll involve sweeping my hair away from my face which I do not like to do because I am very, very insecure about my face shape. It’s round like a prata! Wait no, it’s not just round… it’s round and it’s mampat. Like a burger. Mmmmm burger……)

Which made me start to think about how I shouldn’t be too ambitious, and that I should probably stick to tried-and-tested hairdos for – ahem – full-figured women. Haha!

And which kakak lawa will come to mind when I think of full-figured?

Kakak Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, of course.

(Although I can’t really decide whether her face shape is round or heart-shaped. Did a quick search on Google, the results seem divided.)

Macam mana she make her hair lipat lipat like that niii?!

(Not that I like this hairstyle much… I’m only sharing this picture because I like her bibir and her bulu mata here hahahahaha priorities songsang, nyah.)

I like her hair here because I like rambut messy messy!

But kalau buat rambut macam gini for engagement, maybe will backfire because nanti our parents will tanya why I baru bangun and never sikat rambut hahahahaha (A’AH, rambut aku ni macam bila aku baru bangun tido, asal, kau ade hal pe?)

Looks tertib and cantik! But tie hair up = round face shape = insecurity y’all

Goldilocks-style kat hujung hujung! Not a fan. Not loving the fringe too.

Yay! My feberet ikat tepi hairstyle!

Meh. Looks boring to me.

This one so cantik melentik!

The last hairstyle above reminded me of something that Nani previously recommended to me! Tapi ini angan angan taik kuda, taik unta dan taik lalat sahaje ye tuan tuan dan puan puan.

VOLUME! VOLUME! VOLUME!

Unfortunately the only thing inside my house yang ada volume is my TV and stereo. Also my 2nd sister bila dia screaming at me to pick up my sampah sarap from her bed. Hur hur hur

A style that I like but won't do (because of my insecurities): beehives! Them beehives can be reaaally cute when done right:

(Or if you want a slight twist, you can opt for french braid meets beehive hairstyle. Kalau shampoo boleh 2-in-1, takkan rambut tak boleh 2-in-1 kan)

GARRRGGGGGHHH can I just letak a mangkuk or a baldi over my head so I don’t have to worry about my hair and get this hairy issue out of the way already?!

Taaaaalking about engagements.

We are dangerously close to not being able to realize our ideal engagement setting (something simple, as mentioned here and here) because my future father-in-law dah heboh roboh sekampung dua about our engagement and talking about “catering food from Minang” segala?!?!?! To our horror!!!

(Our, meaning, my mat, his mother and I. Have I mentioned how much I sayang my future supermother-in-law for having expectations that are seerti seiras with our ideal plans???)

My parents don’t know the specific details yet because they’re due to meet slightly before the end of this month so we’ll have to wait and see what comes out from that discussion.

Truth be told, I’m quittttteee close to giving up and giving in to my future father-in-law if he insists on a (hopefully, only slightly) bigger majlis because of two reasons:

(1) Most times I can control and scold my own parents if need be, but I cannot suka suka control or scold someone else’s parents kan! Especially when their own anak wants to give them leeway with everything *gives evil eye to my mamat*

(2) We’ve already “moulded” him into accepting a combined wedding reception, so no harm letting him have some fun with the engagement ceremony, yes? (I hope I don’t regret these words, my friends)

Oh well. Another round of waiting before we know the fate of our engagement plans. Asyik wait wait wait, tapi tak settle settle jugak. Nanti kita tunang lari, baru you all tau eh.

no need to wear sarung guni already

Finally bought something to wear for our engagement!

I actually planned to try and find something off the rack a month before our engagement but I was on the hunt for baju for Nani’s wedding with Nad last Friday and a nice baju kurung caught my eye!

Nothing spectacular, really, but I thought it looked very sweet. Nice enough for an engagement, but still simple enough for me to recycle for raya next year or for attending wedding receptions.

I wanted to give it some thought first though, so I didn’t buy it on the spot.

On Sunday afternoon, my parents wanted to go to Bazaar Geylang to buy my dad’s baju melayu for raya. I decided to follow them since I wanted to send my baju for Sheikh’s wedding for alteration. Tup tup tup, bila tengah navigate through the bazaar, ternampak lagi the same baju! In a different colour this time, but somehow it looked even better.

I pointed it out to my parents, and both of them loved it! The approval was especially surprising coming from my father, since he always recommends orbit baju in orbit colours (hahaha) and is always quick to disapprove something that I want (hahaha si rebel without a cause tu). Tried on the baju, it fit perfectly so I thought “Tunggu ape lagi, Cik Bedah?” and made the purchase!

That night, I whatsapp-ed my mat a picture of the baju on its own and a picture of me wearing the baju and he said he really liked it!!! Yipeee yay!

Now I only need to decide what I want to do with my hair. Hair oh hair.

My mother has been yakking non-stop about me wearing a “scarf putih” for don’t know what reason. Must be mak aku ni banyak sangat tengok telemovie and ada watak perempuan yang ayu ayu belaka pakai scarf putih tau. Dia lupa yang anak dia ni taklah ayu sangat kan.

A-yu-kidding, ada lah hahahahaha

My sister recommended something else that I’m now considering seriously, though!

But it’s not exactly conventional so I don’t know if it’ll look weird on me. Tried to imagine the outcome but cannot visualise it well so will need to try and see it for myself first. Might have to tie my hair in a bun though (which I do not want!) so we’ll see… we’ll see.

Times like these I wish I have a shaper jawline so I don’t have to worry about tying up my hair and feeling insecure about my jawline segala! Haiz susah betul lah jadi perempuan gemuk yang insecure bacin gini. (HAHA WHAT #FATGIRLPAINS OK)

much ado about hairdo

Trying to find inspiration on how to do my hair for our engagement!

Since we’re trying to keep our engagement simple, Nani will be doing my hair and make-up instead of a professional MUA. (When did this trend of engaging professional MUA for engagements start, anyway?) I trust her skillz because she has made me up fabulously for a few of our past night-out shenanigans heh heh heh so hopefully I’ll look bright and glowing to terima my future parents-in-law over at my place.

Might have to remind her yang ini pertunangan yang suci eh, bukan crazy girls’ night out eh – so all the smoky eyes effect and face glitter tu semua tolong letak tepi esbok. I think I want fresh and light make-up for my engagement! Itu pun kalau menjadi lah, I don’t have enough natural beauty to pull off light make-up lah actually HAHAHA

But for now, hair! Hair! What hair shall I have!

I’m thinking along the lines of messy side swept hair, something like this hairstyle which I’ve posted in an earlier entry before.

I’m especially liking this one – a side-swept ponytail:

(Source: Unknown)

(Tutorial here.)

I’ve been bragging to my mother and my sisters and my mat about how my hair is now long enough for me to tie my hair without using a hairband (I now tie my hair by using my own hair to lilit and ikat instead). It saves me the trouble of having to search high and low for hairbands in the house!

(I have 10 million rubberbands at home tapi dorang semua macam bandits, suka hilang hilang sembunyikan diri so everytime aku rasa macam nak put up reward poster just to get one of them back.)
Unfortunately, I don’t think my hair is that long to be able to pull off the hairdo above… nanti sure nampak weird because my hair will be pulled up shorter :-(

Maybe just a simple side sweep with a hairband? Will that be too casual?

(Source: Style Bistro)

Or with fishtail braids?

(Source: Unknown)

Keep it simple but interesting with a side ponytail and flower?

Feeling feeling macam nak channel some Beyonce elegance?

(Source: Hairstyle Twist)
The downside about this style: I think I’ll be conscious about my jawline! Sooo I might just end up leaving my hair as it is (buns and ponytails are a no-no – my jawline lagi kena exposed seh gitu). Maybe just add an accessory?
Flower clips?

Silk Ribbons?

Bulu ayam? (Not a fan of feathers but this is pretty nice heh)

Flower head garlands are pretty too! But not something I’d wear for an engagement…

A dressy hairband so it won’t look too casual?

My, my, my, I very like this lace one very much!

Especially love this one!

Ooooohhh how about putting bendealah yang kelip kelip ni to my hair??? Sempena tengah musim kita berpuasa dan nak berhari raya ni, ambik inspiration from lampu lap lip lah pulak hahahahaha

For that extra glow lah konon!

Hahaha I’m kidding, of course. Gila pe nak pasang lampu kelip kelip gini kat rambut bila time tunang?! Nanti end up mak aku tak gantung lampu lap lip, dia gantung aku pulak kat luar tingkap.
