Must have been a drop dead gorgeous reception bursting with traditional elements! Suka suka sukaaaaa.
(Kind of reminds me of my Indonesian cousin's wedding last year where they had the siraman exercise carried out, very proper, and very sarat with Javanese tradition - not sure if local brides-to-be still do this since I haven't seen or heard about it until now.)
I think sekarang most Melayu brides-to-be won't bersiram bermandi bunga berbadak berendam ni semua because most of us will go for bridal spa and massage sessions! Whiiiiiccchhh I'll be going for probably a few days before my wedding!!! I didn't really have any niat to book my bridal spa and massage anytime soon because it's something that can be easily done two to three months before the actual day since I already know which spa I want to go to. Buttttt as kahwin khronicles history (and all the histories in the world) has proven - kita hanya boleh merancang tetapi hanya Tuhan yang akan menentukan.
So this is how the whole thing happened - Went down to the Mega Xpress' Wedding & Lifestyle Exhibition last Friday evening with my mamat (he was the one who asked whether I wanted to go then suddenly wailed about how he has "turned into a BTB" LULZ) and found Spa Jelita at one of the booths! I've been asking around for reviews and Googling bridal spa and massage places in Singapore and the name that keeps coming up (in a good two-thumbs-up way) is Spa Jelita, so dalam hati jiwa dan raga memang dah tanam niat to book their bridal spa and massage services nearer to our wedding date. But lo and behold! Tengah jalan jalan aimlessly kat wedding exhibition boleh ternampak their booth right before my eyes, so that was such a lovely pleasant surprise.
Tapi yang buat lagi lovely pleasant surprise is their banner that showed a list of all their bridal spa and massage promos!!!!! SO APE LAGI...
Grabbed their 1-day bridal spa package called the Cleopatra Royal Ritual (Boleh feeling feeling macam Cleopatra, y'all! Tapi jangan sampai keluar spa raut muka and rambut semua macam Cleopatra y'all! Itu macam dah seram y'all! Hur hur.) - this package includes steam and sauna bath, body scrub, body massage, milk bath and ganggang for a period of three hours plus at $150, which is down 50% from its original price of $300++! There's another package which I thought was good but did not take because I didn't want to have to go there on three different occasions plus I'm not that much of a spa fanatic - 3-day bridal spa package with the whole beauty and pampering works segala at $399, down from its original price of $700++.
Fuh. Sungguh lumayan.
My mat even threw in a spa facial for me at the last minute - it was going for $48, instead of its usual price of $70++. Looks like I'll still have to add on an additional trip down to Spa Jelita, probably a week or two before the wedding - the staff (and a few of my girlfriends) told me that it's best to go for facials one or two weeks before the actual day. Which is ok lah, since Guthrie Building is located in the East. Kalau somewhere in the West ke, across the Causeway ke, it's ok it's alright kirim salam peluk cium and waffles A&W je, please.
(And since we're on the topic, here's my personal verdict of the exhibition: I don't know whether there were really lesser stalls and reduction in exhibition size or whether there is really a difference in atmosphere of a wedding exhibition on a Friday evening and a wedding exhibition on a Saturday afternoon, but I found this year's slightly disappointing than last year's. Might also be because I no longer have anything to really look out for so daya tarikannya not as strong as last year's hur hur hur)
Oh! I don't know if they will still have this package in their menu even after the exhibition is over, but when I was at their booth, I also saw bridal spa packages that include pampering treats for your bridesmaids! Something nice to reward your bridesmaids with if this is something up your alley (and theirs too, of course.)
I have something else that's entirely different prepared for my bridesmaids, though! It's not as awesome or as major as a spa and massage treat but I'm still pretty excited to meet all of them soon :D
Ok dah, that's all for tonight, be back to blog... soon-ish! (I have a few pending blog drafts screaming to be published. Yikes. Blog drafts pun dah pandai nak screaming screaming eh sekarang.)
Besides the upcoming Mega Xpress' Mega Wedding & Lifestyle Exhibition this weekend, looks like the annual Jentayu Gallery & Friends Exhibition and Perfect Frosting & Our Midas Touch Exclusive Open House is baaaaaaaaaack!
Guess what's been coooooking for me since the start of this fabulous year??? Oh ho ho ho ho, here's what!
I tried cooking and eating steamed fish like I mentioned in an earlier entry but TAK BOLEH TELAN AH GENG. Lu cocok itu ikan masuk tekak gua pakai peniti pun confirm terhembus terkeluar balik punya! My body system seriously benci ikan with a vengeance ok. Boleh nangis airmata berdarah sak makan itu binatang.
I've stopped eating fish (except for tuna, sardine and ikan bilis) since I was in primary school and I don't think I can ever go back to eating fish ever again, at least not without vomitting everything out ala girls gone wild punya night out. Sooooo I've decided to stick to something more bearable, which is good old chicken, y'all! (I'm a hardcore beef lover so chicken's pretty meh to me but it's still not as terrible as fish ah *shudders*)
Think I've mentioned this before but I want to say it again because nothing wrong with reiterating the truth - seriously sayang ke hujung dunia kat whoever yang came up with Happy Call pan because that thing is a bloody godsend for people yang tak reti dan tak febret masak ni semua!!! Yours truly is nowhere close to Nigella Lawson but at least belum sampai termasak ayam rasa macam tayar skateboard yet ah.
Ever so thankful to my middle sister Farahin for being so supportive in my struggle to lose weight for my wedding too - she Googled healthy grilled chicken recipes for me, which pretty much explains the sudden interest in grilling chicken mua ha ha. I'm currently trying out recipes from this link she gave me: 15 Healthy Grilled Chicken Recipes (No brainer title there) - no instructions and no video tutorials whatsoever so I'm really just testing and experimenting as I go along. (Although it's not really much of an experiment if all you have to do is dump ingredients into a Happy Call pan is it?! Hwa hwa hwaaaaa)
I've also been going for Zumba classes once in awhile but I'll need to ramp up my exercise regime before I can see and feel any actual weight loss... which is why I'm going to start exercising at a women-only gym located just 10 minutes away from my home next week! In shaa Allah menjadi. Kalau tetap tak menjadi and I still don't look ~fabulous~ by this November, aku seriously going to duduk BELAKANG PELAMIN OK. Actually niat hati nak threaten sembunyi bawah pelamin ah, tapi takut tak muat sebab perut boncet sangat lah kan hahahahaha
Ooh! Talking about exercise, someone recently mentioned Tabata training to me as well - thinking of incorporating and giving it a shot once I get into the groove of exercising:
All you need is 4 minutes, you guys! 4 minutes aje! Step all you need is 4 minutes aje konon, nanti tak sampai seminit dah tercungap cungap mintak sedut oxygen tank ini bertuah punya anak.
Another awesome thing that happened when the year started was our choice masjid finally releasing their dates for kursus rumahtangga, y'all! So tanpa berlengah lagi we've booked a slot and due to attend the course on my 26th birthday! No parties, no outings, no hoorah hooray for my birthday this time round, only valuable knowledge for our marriage, my future husband and I ^^
Really can't wait to see what's in store for us at kursus!
Oh, and here's a little something else that I recently received via mail at the start of the new year:
Thank you so so much for the lovely postcards, Zakaria Zainal! And my heartiest congratulations on all your achievements and milestones that you rightfully deserve so far! In case you guys have no idea who he is - he is this freaking awesome photographer I wrote about before in this entry - I truly and sincerely find his works freaking ah-mazing and I love them to bits and pieces. Still can't get over the fact that I didn't know about him until a few months back, really. If you've never heard about him or seen his stuff before, THEN WHAT THE EFF ARE YOU WAITING FOR, FELLAS - clickety click.
Oh, and thank you for sending mail addressed to me as Ms Kahwin Khronicles too! Don't think I'll receive another one like this ever again so off it goes into my chestbox of memories! Teehee!
On 16 December 2012, Enchanted Wedding was featured in Berita Minggu's Mahligai section:
When I first read the article, I felt impartial - it is a well-known fact that some makciks pakciks sedara maras can be pretty unreasonable and difficult bila dah masuk campur hal ehwal majlis kahwin yang bukan dorang punya and comments and instructions dorang akan datang melulu tanpa diundang. But at the same time, even though I understand that sometimes what is requested will not be exactly the same as the actual final product, I also think variations and quality that are too far off from what pengantins want should not be tolerated. It's a classic 'he said, she said, they said' story so I didn't think much about the article after I finished reading...
And then, someone on my Twitter feed posted pictures of dais and decor allegedly done by Enchanted Wedding for a wedding reception last week:
I don't know about you but that looks like - in the words of my major lazer bridesmaid Nina - macam Big Bird vomited all over seh! I refuse to believe any pengantin had requested for this preposterousness.
And in case you haven't had the time to read Berita Minggu's Mahligai section today:
All I can say is - for as long as there are parties willing to take the risk with such controversial vendors, for as long as there are parties who do not do thorough research when it comes their special days involving thousands of dollars (even with the power of technology at their fingertips), for as long as there are parties who put in blind faith, there will always be victims' accounts and newspaper reports of irresponsible vendors who can and will get away with their trickery and substandard work, or worse, no work done at all.
